If you are looking to rent an extraordinary slice of history with a quintessential Olde English feels, then this is a must have you..

The Worthies is a Tudor building, altered in the 17th century when the fine chimneys were added. It has gabled dormers and a carriage arch and is a listed building, grade II*.

The building was the White Hart coaching Inn until the early 1700's when it became a private house. In the 19th century it was used as the premises of the Hailey family's plumbing and glazing business and by 1881 it was occupied by the local builder, George Darlington.

In No.56 are wall paintings from the 1550's of six of the Nine Worthies, favourite subjects of paintings in the Middle Ages: three from the ancient world, Alexander the Great, Hector of Troy and Julius Caesar; three from Old Testament: Joshua, King David and Judas Maccabeus; three early Christians, Emperor Charlemagne, King Arthur and Godfrey de Bouillon the Crusader.

The Pageant of the Nine Worthies was mentioned by William Shakespeare in Love's Labour's Lost, which was first performed in 1595.

The home comprises of large living room with open fireplace, fully equipped kitchen on the ground floor and on the upper floors there is the family bathroom, three very large bedrooms and the main bedroom has en-suite shower room facilities. To the rear is a small courtyard bedroom.

OLD AMERSHAM

There is a good reason why Old Amersham is such a desirable location - for couples, families, businesses, and TV and film companies.

An ancient market town, it is one of the few to hold an annual Charter Fair (each September) instated in the 13th century; it is the location for scenes in Four Weddings and a Funeral, episodes of Midsomer Murders and more recently Celebrity Masterchef; there are meeting and eating places to satisfy all tastes and educational facilities which are second to none in the country.

The location, which borders a rural landscape, also has a cosmopolitan feel that is enhanced by the boutique shops, independent retailers and coffee shops. A wider range of shopping and eating is in larger nearby towns such as Aylesbury, Watford and High Wycombe, which are all within a 35 minute drive of Old Amersham.
